Highlights from the biggest educational conference in New York
This was my first year attending AERA's behemoth annual research conference! With five full days of programming and papers, the guide book alone weighed about as much as a watermelon (thankfully, they have an amazing app with all the session information too!) This year, CTSC presented two papers in a primetime session for the special interest group, Technology as an Agent of Change in Teaching and Learning. It's a complex title, but gets to the heart of what we do: use technology to drive meaningful changes in actual school practices.
From a design thinkers perspective, there were a number of interesting topics that connected to our questions about technology integration. How can we effectively protect student data rights while maintaining the current free model of the internet? What are key factors of technology focused professional development that motivate teacher change? How can we encourage pre-service teachers to explore technology use as well? It was a whirlwind weekend, but I walked away with some interesting perspectives on how educators, researchers and policymakers around the globe are tackling these issues. Below are some of the most inspiring sessions, and be sure to peruse the Annual Meeting Program for more!
